Have you ever had a time when you felt God or someone had done you wrong. If you look at the book of Ruth, as we did Wednesday Night, you know that Naomi the mother-in-law of Ruth believed that God was out to get her. She left Bethlehem looking for food and before it was over she attended the funerals of her husband and two sons. Who could blame her for feeling that way? She had no idea of what God was up too!
Her name Naomi meant pleasantness or maybe we would call her Ms. Sunshine! But, when she returned from Moab she said call me Mara which means bitterness. Don't dare call me Ms. Sunshine. She was becoming bitter toward God in her life because of the way things had turned out. So what do we do when we feel God or others have done us wrong?
Well you have two choices as the old saying goes. You can get bitter or you can get better! O.k. easier said than done so how do you keep from getting bitter? Well when you think God is your enemy praise him. When you start praising him for all he has done for you then in time you will realize he wants only what is best for you. Praise him for who he is! Praise him for what he has done! Praise him for the Savior who died for you! Praise him for the empty tomb! Praise him for the peace you have with him! Praise him for the heaven that will one day be yours! Oh, praise his holy name! It will be good for you!
Well what about those in your life that you feel have done you wrong! Jesus said pray for them! Why should I do that you might ask? It's only natural that you don't want to do something good for someone who has done you wrong! Jesus said do it not for them, but for you! It will keep you from doing wrong! It will keep you from becoming bitter! It will keep you looking like Jesus. Doing good is always the remedy for keeping sin out of your life. When you pray for them God will bless you for doing so and provide you with the grace you need!
SO when you feel God or others are out to get you, Praise Him and Pray for them. Naomi learned in time that God was on her side. Just maybe you will as well!
See Ya Sunday,
The Preacher
