Every now and then I run across someone I haven't seen in a long time and walk away thinking man how they have changed. What I am really saying is "boy they sure have gotten old". In the same breath I am saying to myself I sure am glad that hasn't happened to me! Then someone comes along and shows me a picture of myself in my younger days and I swear it couldn't be me! But, then again it could be or it might be and then suddenly I realize it is me! So I have to ask myself "Self what happened to you". The answer is always the same I haven't aged very well these last few years. Now before you go and say anything I have noticed here lately that a lot of you who have been with me the last twenty-five years are sporting a few more wrinkles, and gray hairs as well as a few added inches. Now you can color the hair and you can lose weight and some of you can try and the cover the wrinkles. But, the fact is you can't change the fact that you are getting OLD!
So you are changing and it is a change that you can't prevent! I know you would like to stay say 30 forever but, it isn’t going to happen! So let me ask you this, 'What if you never changed spiritually"? I mean you can't prevent getting older but you can keep yourself from growing spiritually. So what if you never changed from now until the time you went to heaven. I mean if you stayed the way you are today in Christ would you be satisfied with who you were! I guess the real question we need to answer is would Jesus be satisfied with you? I mean you can go to church and you do a lot of things in church but, that doesn't change the fact that you aren't growing spiritually! So what if you do stay the way you are what will your life or for that matter what will your eternity look like?
Peter says that once we have been born again that our life should constantly be changing. The fact is that every day of our life as we grow older we should look more and more like Jesus. Do you? If not then what assurance do you have that you have truly been saved? If not will you be satisfied entering heaven empty handed? Peter says when we enter eternity that we ought to live in such a way that all of heaven would want to throw a parade for us when we get there for the life we lived. Sadly too many of us live like we are planning to slip in unnoticed through the back door so no one will see us for who we really are!
So do you want to enter heaven the way you are today or do you want to make some positive changes in your life today that will impact your eternity tomorrow. Peter gives us a list of seven things that we need to add to our lives in II Peter 1:5-11.Thing that will give us assurance of our salvation and at the same time cause heaven to throw the gates open wide for us when we arrive. Now back to my earlier question do you want to stay the way you are? I hope to see you this Sunday so we can begin to bring about positive changes in our lives together!
See ya Sunday,
The Preacher
P.S. Focus on II Peter 1:5-11 the next few days so that maybe we can get started a little earlier bringing about change.

I was born and raised in Tennessee for 31 years until God called my family here to Union Valley Baptist in 2007. I have been married to my beautiful wife, Tanya, since July 12, 1996. We have 3 wonderful children together: Chandler, Carlie and Cara. I love to spend time with my family.
I've been in the ministry since 2002, full time since 2003. I thank God for his blessings, my family, and for my church family here at Union Valley. I am a percussion major who went to school to be a band director and now I lead music at a church, directing a choir.....hmmmm go figure.
I try to live a life that pleases my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Brian
